A lenticular cloud at sunset over southern Alberta, Canada. The clouds often accompany strong "chinook" winds on the lea side of the Canadian Rockies. These dry, warm 'snow-eater' winds can abruptly melt as much as a foot of snow in one day, rapidly raising temperatures as much as 40°C (75°F).
